GUIDELINES FOR MAKING A STATUTORY DECLARATION
HOW DO I
MAKE A STATUTORY DECLARATION?
Obtain a statutory declaration form
The form can
be obtained free of charge from The Law and Courts Building at KM 1 ½ Jalan
Tutong, Bandar Seri Begawan BA1910, Brunei Darussalam, Judicial Departments in
Kuala Belait, Tutong and Temburong.
Fill in the Statutory declaration form
If your
statutory declaration is required by a particular Government Ministry or
department, find out from them what you are required to declare.
You must
ensure that the form is properly filled up and completed before swearing or
affirming it.
Payment of stamp duty
Stamp duty
is paid at the Cashier counter in The Law and Courts
Building, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The amount
of stamp duty to be paid is $7.00 for a statutory declaration set and $2.00 for each extra copy.
COMMISSIONERS FOR OATHS
You may meet
with a lawyer who has been appointed a
Commissioner for Oaths. The lawyer will usually indicate whether he is a
Commissioner for Oaths on the signboard of his office.
Alternatively,
you may request the services of a Commissioner forOaths at The Law and Courts Building.
WHAT ABOUT
STATUTORY DECLARATION FOR USE OVERSEAS?
Statutory declarations which are required for use in countries other
than Brunei Darussalam may be required to be notarized. This Mean that you
will have to swear or affirm them before a Notary Public.
